Transferring over 250+ GB of Music from my external HDD to my NAS device. I have to admit its a pretty large collection of music that spans not only decades but various genres. From Al Green to Esthero to Metallica to Paramore to Theivery Corporation to Wu-Tang. This is going to be an all-day affair considering the sheer amount of music/data transfer that has to occur.

Music: Neurologix - Rise Again (An Edge Tribute)

A mixtape that I have had going over in my head for the past 2 years. It wasn’t until the recent resurgence in a Facebook group dedicated to the Edge nightclub in Ft Lauderdale, FL. that I got inspired to go back in the lab and finish it.

To the uninitiated, the Edge Nightclub is where I spent over 6 years of my life on a weekly basis. It was here that I grew up and learned that it was OK to be different and it was here that I learned that electronic dance music or EDM was the music that would define who I am.

Over the years many DJ’s held residences in this nightclub. Among them were Bruce Wilcox, Dru, Stryke and Mike Sharpe. And it is because of them that I decided to try and learn their craft. For some the Edge was just another nightclub but for most of us it was HOME.While the Edge has changed names and management and is now known as Revolution, the Edge is what I will always remember it by.

This mix is my tribute to that time and place.

Since 1992, I’ve had a passion for dance music. A passion that has taken me near and far and given me a more deeper appreciation for music in general. An ability to hear the subtle nuance or pitch change. Through out this time period, I’ve witnessed the growth of EDM or Electronic Dance Music from Industrial, Techno, House, Breaks, Drum n Bass, Trance, Electro and now Dubstep. My influences have grown from Meat Beat Manifesto and NIN (Nine Inch Nails) in the late 80’s to Daft Punk, Orbital, Plastikman, Groove Armada, Derrick May & Juan Atkins in the early to mid 90’s. In the mid 90’s to the turn of the century it was Rabbit in the Moon, Soul Oddity, Uberzone, Aux 88 & practically the entire lower half of the State of Florida that dominated EDM before Goldie and his Metalheadz crew (Optical, Doc Scott, Ed Rush, Alex Reece, J Majik, & Total Science) brought their jungle ting to join the 20th & 21st centuries. Now with DJ’s and producers like Armin Van Buuren, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Steve Angello & Ferry Corsten and the new crop of hit makers like Diplo, Rusko, Skrillex, Pendulum, Noisia & Caribou carrying the torch of EDM, the sky’s the limit.

It’s because of this deep rooted love and appreciation of dance music in general that I continue to listen to EDM and do my mixes. Here are my 2010 mixes and stay tuned as more are coming!
